The LIGHT edition of the series is now complete with the publication of Part 3 - LIGHT.

So, what's the point of a LIGHT version of the main series?
It's aimed at anyone from 16 years of age onwards, contemplating higher education, even to university. The LIGHT series has been developed to assist in the transition from school science to university thinking, helping to bridge the chasm.
Part 3 - LIGHT, covers four big areas in physics; symmetry, magnetism, semiconductors and the accelerators of CERN, including the Large Hadron Collider. These topics are then followed by two chapters that introduce you to the people who have made physics what it is today; from 1901 to 2024.
Nobel prizes in physics are awarded for new inventions, general contributions to physics and ground-breaking advances in the subject. Meet the people and find out why they won the Nobel prize in physics. If it involves a subject that has not been covered in the 18 chapters of the journey, then a topic will introduce the subject. In this way, your knowledge of modern physics is brought right up to date. For example; find out what an optical comb can do for you and whether optical tweezers would be of benefit!
In reality, the journey into modern physics never ends as long as you maintain an appetite for knowledge.
Whether you want to become a scientist, a technologist, an engineer or a mathematician, you're bound to keep bumping into physics along the way: it's the fundamental science.
So, continue the Journey into Modern Physics, long after you've read the entire series. There are so many issues of the day that need fresh minds to find new solutions and a way forward into the future without destroying our wonderful planet.
Your planet needs you!
